Position Description

A temporary part time (0.6) prep teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective June 3, 2019 to June 30, 2019.  The assignment will be at Charlie Lake Elementary School.

Charlie Lake Elementary is a semi-rural school situated 10 minutes from the community of Fort St. John.  The school has a population of 330 students. The majority of our students are bussed. Our school has a rich history as illustrated on the walls inside the building.  We have a very active Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and an involved parent community. Both teachers and parents support activities that make Charlie Lake a special place for students.  These include extracurricular sports teams, hot lunch programs, fun days, and an annual author residency. Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Experience teaching primary and intermediate age students
  • Ability to teach french and art
  • Ability to use performance standards in the area of social responsibility
  • Cognizant of the outcomes and evaluation processes outlined in the Provincial Curriculum
  • Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques
  • Experience teaching in a multiage group setting
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Training in teaching ELL students
  • Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, emotional learning difficulties
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the school improvement plan and with professional development
  • Working knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing Assessment and Performance Based Assessment, Balanced Literacy, and Blended/structured writing process

  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) 



  • $1400 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $2000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2,520.09 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $48,657 - $91,278
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
