Supportive Learning students plus behaviour support for students in various classes
The Supportive Learning Program Teacher teaches in elementary and secondary Supportive Learning Programs. The Supportive Learning Teacher supports students experiencing social, emotional, mental health and behavioural related challenges. The Supportive Learning Teacher has an inclusion mindset and uses a strength-based approach to enable student access to curriculum learning in the classroom environment. This teacher collaborates with classroom teachers to support student success. Supportive Learning Teachers act as case managers; developing and implementing Individual Education Plans and support plans such as Positive Behavior Support Plans. Supportive Learning Teachers enable student access to prevention and intervention related supports, services and learning opportunities; designing and implementing learning opportunities specific to student IEP goals as related to social-emotional, physical, mental and cognitive well-being. These teachers liaise with Learning Services personnel and outside agencies in support of students and families.
Successful applicant will:
Have a Diploma or Masters in Special Education OR at least three courses in inclusive learning for teaching students with behaviour challenges
Teach students with behaviour difficulties, mental health, and social-emotional related needs.and work collaboratively with classroom teachers
Develop and implement IEPs and positive behavioural support plans
Have qualifications to teach at the appropriate grade level for this position
Have a current CPI (non-Violent intervention training) as an asset.
