Position Description

Two (2) temporary full-time (1.0) Primary French Immersion teachers are required by School District 60 (Peace River North). This assignment will be at École Central Elementary School of the Arts effective September 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018. The candidate must be completely fluent in French (written and oral). A written and oral test will be conducted to determine proficiency in French.

Ecole Central Elementary School of the Arts is a K-6, Fine Arts, dual-track school located in the heart of downtown Fort St. John, in the beautiful Peace River Valley. We enroll a current student population of 390; 250 students are in the French Immersion Program and 140 in the English Program. We offer an early French immersion program, which begins in kindergarten. Fourteen percent of our students are of First Nations ancestry. Our school has a staffing compliment of 17 teachers and 8 support workers as well a principal, and .5 vice principal, reading recovery teacher and a .5 librarian. Our school enjoys itinerant access to a range of services. École Central Elementary School is a Fine Arts school and staff appointments will reflect the specific classroom needs and the Fine Arts Programme needs. Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Successful French Immersion teaching/training experience at the primary level
  • Experience and/or course work in teaching a minimum of one Fine Arts strand with the ability to contribute to the overall vision of a Fine Arts school
  • Cognizant of the learning outcomes and evaluation process outlined in provincial IRP core curriculum documents
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Integration of computer technology into the learning environment
  • Committed to working with staff on the school plan and with professional development
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and collaborative problem-solving skills as demonstrated by the ability to relate well with students, parents and staff members
  • Expertise/interest in teaching in the Fine Arts

 

Job Duties:

  • Teach range of elementary French Immersion Courses
  • Plan and implement the re-designed BC Curriculum
  • Communicate with students and parents/guardians
  • Work with colleagues as part of a collaborative team
  • Use assessment, diagnosis and intervention techniques for students who experience learning difficulties

  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) 

 

Compensation

  • $700 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $1000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2,418 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $46,716 - $87,635  
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
