Position Description

A temporary full time (1.0) primary (multi-age) teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.  The assignment will be at Buick Creek Elementary School.

Buick Creek is a rural elementary school in a picturesque small farming community 70 km from Fort St. John. The school has 2 teachers, one of whom is the head teacher. Buick Creek’s support staff consists of one Certified EA and an ECE who runs the Strong Start Outreach Program. Additional support for Library, ELL, Learning Assistance and administration come from Prespatou School and district itinerants. Buick Creek School has a student population of approximately 15 students.  Approximately 25% of the students have English as a second language or dialect. The school has a brand new playground and has access to an indoor skating arena. The parents and community are strong supporters of the school. For more information please go to 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
  • Experience teaching in kindergarten or training in early education
  • An educational background for elementary level students
  • Experience teaching or desire to teach in a rural, multi-aged classroom
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Positive Behavior Support (PBS)
  • Strong classroom management skills, while maintaining student dignity
  • Cognizant of the learning outcomes and evaluation processes outlined in provincial curriculum
  • Supportive of school planning and direction
  • Committed to professional development
  • Ability/desire to work collaboratively with students and parents
  • Experience planning with Teachers and Education Assistants and a willingness to work in a collaborative model regarding curriculum, assessment, instruction and planning
  • Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, emotional and physical learning difficulties and adjust to the needs of the students
  • Familiar with or willing to become familiar with Performance Standards
  • Experience or knowledge of Balanced Literacy , Literacy Place, Assessment for Learning
  • Differentiated Instruction, Math Makes Sense, Criterion Referenced Performance Based Assessment, Guided Reading
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and support varying learning needs
  • Training in teaching ESL students
  • Commitment and a willingness to work with colleagues on staff development activities linked to school goals for enhancing student learning.
  • Ability/desire to work with a partner teacher

  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $2,520.09 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $48,657 - $91,278
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
  • Possible subsidized and affordable staff housing for rural positions
  • Isolation allowance of 752.00 paid over 10 months
